honda recommends 91RON about 86PON or higher..
octane rating relates to pre-ignition or 'knock' or 'ping'
which is - bad - where higher octane rating resists
pre-ignition thru slower burning fuel..
basically, higher compression ration requires higher
octane slower burning petrol to resist pre-ignition..
cbr300r compression ratio is [only] 10.7:1
compare; cbr250rr/4 11.5 : 1, cb400rr cr 11.3 ; 1, cbr600r
12.2 : 1, cbr1000rr 12.3 : 1..
when fuel/air is highly compressed in combustion chamber
pre-ignition [fuel starts burning before spark plug ignites it]
is more likely to happen, thus slower burning high octane rating
petrol is required for use in high compression combustion chambers..
aside from additives designed for car engines
you get zero extra power or efficiency from
slower burning ie, higher octane rating petrol..
honda has designed our combustion chamber
for flame throw based on faster burning
91ron [86pon] petrol.. it works better..
i have paid the 'premium' for higher octane petrol
a few times in emergencies, to avoid ethanol
in their 91ron petrol..
no difference in power of performance..
