Look who came to play today, Yamahas newest 1/4 liter the R25. Lets see how it stacks vs the CBR300R

R25

249cc
35 bhp
20.6 ft-lbs
??? top speed

CBR300R

286cc
30.4 hp
19.9 ft-lbs
145 kph top speed (CBR250R)

The CBR250R is the undisputed king of the quarter liters and I expect the CBR300R to carry that forward. R25 looks like a much more aggressive bike, with a greater track focus it seems. Price is still unknown.

The CBR300 has a higher displacement that the Yamaha R25, yet the Yamaha has a high er horse power. I'm not sure how weight factors into this, but do you expect that the top speed of the Yamaha will be higher than the CBR300?

yes i do. the R25 is shaping up to be a road legal track bike, sort of like the ZX6R is for Kawasaki.

CBR300R should be much more agreeable as a commuter than R25...

Got to love that, but would insurance be higher since it's a "race bike"
I couldn't tell you right now. It won;t be sold as a "race bike" but a road bike. I'm not sure if the insurance companies will have the distinction between the R25, CBR300R and Ninjette. They will simply see small displacement bikes.

This is one of those cases where i'd like to see an undertail exhaust, it would look great with the overall design
agreed, could be something we see on R25 when it transitions to production. That R25 ^^^ is a race bike, they typically avoid undertails just because of excess piping and weight...

That is true. I guess they can always consider having an undertail exhaust for street versions and then side mounted for race versions

The R25 does has some nice looks but that exhaust would have to go straight away.

This is more like it

The below image I found when having a quick google of the bike
This old post gave me a laugh and just goes to show how little notice one should take of the pre launch info and the way the concept model bike looks.
If the production version of the R25 had really ended up looking this good AND had the 'expected' 35+ HP then I wouldn't have bought a CBR300!

Yup, another thread from the very early days of these forums... many of those posts were from guys who've never even owned a motorcycle. Some have never even ridden a bike. If you dig back into threads from 2013, you'll see some seriously lame and nonsensical BS posts. The idiots just seem to come out of the wood work any time a new motorcycle website is started on the net.

The R3 is only 2BHP higher at 37HP?

According to this dyno test, it made only 29HP.

Interesting comparison,
Yamaha R25 (249cc) ptwin, vs Honda CBR300R (284cc) single.
The Ptwin design wins, only because it revs higher.
YZF-R25=365 LBS
YZF-R3 = 368 LBS
CBR300R=357LBS
