Was perusing the stats on the 300R and F on the Honda website and noticed they give a MPG figure of 71 for the R and 78 for the F.

I know these are estimates and many factors come into play but I would have
thought the R, with its' fairing and windscreen, would have the higher number.

The claimed weight for the R is 9 pounds higher than the F but, again, would not the presumed superior aerodynamics cancel that out?

Not a big deal certainly but I did find it a bit surprising.

Thoughts??

Some fresh faced newbie in the marketing department must've got the given the task and just deducted roughly one MPG for every pound heavier the the R model was.

Under average usage, I'd say the MPG is a lot lower than 70.
Perhaps if you'd be riding it at speeds of 45MPH.
Just saying...

Generally those MPG figures that come from the company are only obtainable in ideal riding conditions at a constant speed that's not too fast.
No company wants their bike to appear thirsty. :)

Yeah, no way in a real-world riding you're going to get 78 mpg on either. 71 is probably doable if you're in an "eco mode" (read: riding like a grandmother). 65 to 60 mpg is more likely.

Ha ha, well one would wonder with the figures I get. I think it's the combined lower weight of bike + rider.
I generally rtn 70MPG (30km/l) on any trip that involves a mix of spirited riding (say up to 75MPH) on back roads and transport stages @ 60MPH (police presence) without worrying about fuel economy at all.
I like to enjoy my motorcycling, fuel consumption is a side issue for me. :)

I aim to get around 100 smiles per gallon. Have no interest whatsoever in how much fuel I use in the process.

I ride my CBR hard. Anything above 75MPH seriously lowers MPG.
Worst I ever had is 40MPG.
I have this fuel issue (of vent hose dripping condense fuel) on top of breaking in the engine.
I also ride it hard (after I've logged 375 miles).
My first 2 fuelups where 50-55MPG (break in)
3rd 40,
4th 44MPG, but I did ride it mostly at speeds of over 85MPH.

I wonder how many random profiles, that haven't said anything, just end up replying to mine.

One would almost believe there's a spammer on this forum, with multiple accounts.

spam is unsolicited commercial material,
posted on multiple forums etc..

'spamming' [urban dictionary] is;
the posting of useless crap on forums
over and over..

a 'troll' however [urban dictionary];
posts deliberately provocative posts
intending to cause disruption and
argument..

one, troll response is accusing other
members, of being trolls..
