New Motorcycles Arriving in Crates.

My dealer told me that the new motorcycles arrive crated. So, what exactly remains to be attached to the motorcycle after it is uncrated? My best guess - mirrors, fairings, turn signal stalks, tail light assembly.

1) Do the engines come filled with oil or is it dealer added?
2) Do the batteries come dry and the dealer activates it by adding the acid? I think so because the battery model number ends in -BS which stands for "bottle shipped" according to Yuasa.

There isn't much in the way of "assembly" to do on one of these bikes after it comes out of the shipping crate... aside from possibly mounting the mirrors onto the upper cowl on some models, they are shipped fully assembled. On the CBR300R, I believe the mirrors only need to be rotated into position. The batteries are shipped dry and come with an acid pack. After adding the acid, the battery needs to be fully charged.

The engines are filled with Honda GN4 motorcycle oil at the factory... dealer needs to check for proper oil level as part of the PDI (Pre-Delivery Inspection).

Thanks, Mike. I thought that manufacturers would try and economise on shipping costs by letting the dealer add on the bulky pieces like fairings and mirrors and thus being able to use smaller crates. After all, they are shipping these crates all over the world.
Good info, Mike... I like that it's assembled up from the factory... Don't know how much I'd trust the dealer on their "assembly".

Meh, I'd argue that when it comes to forklifts.. give me Linde any day!
This place is some kind of parallel universe, inhabited by very strange people.

Who the heck notices a forklift in a picture of motorbikes?

We'll have threads about bloody steam trains and traction engines soon......

Well it's probably a safe assumption that if Honda were a manufacturer of forklifts they would likely be using them in their own factories, but of course they don't make forklifts.

Who knows, maybe Toyota executives are using HondaJets for their business travel. It also wouldn't surprise me to see Honda robotics in use in some of the other brands of Japanese motorcycle/automobile factories (Kawasaki Heavy Industries is also a manufacturer of industrial robotics).
