Hello all,

We are having some issues with shifting down from certain gears. The bike was recently rebuilt and we are still new to adjusting clutches and all of that. We are going to fiddle with it this weekend, but would like some insight into what this might be.

There are no issues shifting up. The issue seems to only occur under a couple of different conditions while shifting down.

Staying in 1st - 2nd. No issues shifting down from 2nd to 1st. We can do this over and over again without issue.

Staying in 1st - 3rd. From 3rd I can shift down to 2nd without issue. Attempting to shift down again to 1st is met with a "splashy" feeling in the shifter and it stays in 2nd.
The only way to access 1st from this point is to move the shifter up and then down.

Staying in 1st - 4th. From 4th I can shift down to 3rd without issue. Attempting to shift down again to 2nd is met with the same "splashy" feeling in the shifter and it stays in 3rd.
Same routine as above to get it into 2nd. Move the shifter up and then down into 2nd.
2nd to 1st is also splashy. Rinse and repeat to get it into 1st.

Does not seem to be an issue with 5th and 6th gear (although we still encounter the issue when trying to go from 3rd downward).

Is this just an issue with our outside adjustments, or could it be an issue with the gear shift linkage on the inside of the engine?
