Perhaps with different emissions regulations they are able to run a bit of a richer tune from factory and maybe advance the timing a couple extra degrees without the knock sensors kicking in?

plus those Bangkok boys do all sorts of wicked mods to their crotch rockets.

Cbr 250r 99 mph with 14t sprocket, 89 mph with 13T fully tucked.

I am only 140 pounds ... I have notice my top speed is extremely affected by my shifting and throttle positions unlike my other bikes.
I completely agree with this. I found that if I shifted a bit too early on my CB300F the bike would struggle to hit 140 km/h, and then not really give anything more even at wide-open throttle; it would just sit there bouncing between 139 and 140 as if that was its top speed. If I wrung out each gear properly it would hit 140 km/h faster and through some sort of acceleration momentum it would keep going to 145 then the acceleration would cease if I didn't tuck-in. I tend to be 140-150 pounds too.

It was strange because in both types of situations I was at a very similar RPM's so the torque should've allowed the bike to keep accelerating but it topped-out early instead.

Even at full-tuck I suspect that it might have went from 145-150 in five more seconds, but since the climb in speed was so gradual that I backed-off. One time I made a pass in fifth gear and it hit the limiter at 130 km/h give or take. It would've been interesting to see if it would've glided to 150 km/h in that instance because in most cases I was shifting after 9,000 RPM but rarely after 10,000 so that might've affected the top speeds that I reached.

The fairings and windscreen on the CBR300 seem to be giving riders an extra 15 kph which is quite considerable. To be fair though for fairly conservative riders one might cruise at 120 then bring it up to 140 for a pass and then bring it back down to 120 so I wouldn't necessarily sway someone from the 300F as I really love its styling.

Exactly !

144 is disapointing.
I don't get why the F goes about as fast as my Rebel (only 5kph faster), while having such huge torque and HP increase over it. The rebel only has 16hp and goes 85 mph (136kph) .

If I where you, Ravinoth, I would put a 15t on the bike. It will bring your bike closer to the powerband, gain a HP or two, thus your top speed should increase a bit. It should also correct some of the offset between gps and speedo, and unless your odo is on the dot correct, also give you more accurate MPG readouts.

Gearing does not affect HP.

It is a bit disappointing. For my needs I felt that the 300F came really **** close to being "enough bike" (ie. screw the haters); but not even being able to hit 100 mph (160 kph) felt pretty lame to me so I actually traded my 300F in for a 500F and it's pretty much exactly what I was looking for. Its top speed is around 188 kph which isn't a huge jump considering the jump in CC's but that's enough for me (for now haha).

i'm not here to fu@k spiders
Ha! haven't heard that one for a while. LMAO

So today I racked up a few k's on the bike.
took the GPS this time. Once again the Speedo just nudged 160, GPS recorded a max of 144. So that's bang on the 10% error of the Australian/NZ bikes.
Yep, that's why you have to discount those YouTube clips showing 174Km/h top speed runs and such like. Fantasy figures.

I really liked keeping the bike below 400LBS.
I have an (unused) Suzuki GS500F. It's 485LBS, and I find it a pain to roll around in the yard; as well as safety wise, to me I feel less safe on it.

I was eying the CB500X a few months back,
Liked the seating position, and all, but the price, and weight kind of turned me off; since I wanted a replacement for the GS500F. The 500F came second at 425LBS, and seems like a good candidate, but I find the FZ-07 a better one for the price.
They say Honda's valve adjustment (a $300-500 job) on the CB500's is every 16k miles.
On the FZ-07 it appears to be every 25k miles, so you'd end up saving on maintenance in the long run...

That's a big long run to gain the saving tho. Most owners of these bikes would be lucky to still have the bike at 16K let alone 32K or 48K.
For example Fanatic and Ravinoth both traded up with (i'm guessing) less than 5K on the clock. To mention but two that spring to mind.

I have sold bikes in the past out of guilt, because the poor thing just sits there in the garage day in, day out. I had one bike for 5/6 years and in that time did less than 9000kms. As a married man with kids, I felt bad about tying up money in something I hardly used. Mind you, twelve months later I would buy another one.......

That's one reason why I love the CBR3R. Apart from the low weight, it was so cheap I really don't care if it sits there for weeks or months without use. Heck, I could keep it for five years, sell it for $1 and still lose less than the typical depreciation on a small family car over one year!

I wished I could say it's cheap.
$4k, + dest fee + dealer fee + taxes often comes out above $5k. For that price you can buy a second hand car here FL.

I just bought a larger tank for my Rebel, and a larger rear sprocket from current, for better top speed.
Give it 2 months time to see how it rides, and sell it around tax day (March to April).

I've reached 90mph on my cb300f but i've always backed off cause I don't want to blow my engine lol.
You wont blow it's engine Cherry, it has a rev limiter that kicks in to prevent you from doing so.
Ive wound mine right out countless times with no ill effects. Took it to the race track a couple of times as well and absolutely wrung its neck but it didn't hurt it.
Pretty bullet proof these little Hondas! :)
